Fistral Beach
This is a world-famous beach as it is one of the most consistent surfing beaches in the UK. It is a long, sandy beach backed by gorgeous sand dunes and rocky cliffs. Surfing events are carried out here as well as jet ski competitions! It also makes for a perfect family beach as the sea is pleasant and it is close to the town.
Lusty Glaze Beach
This beach has a quieter atmosphere and is horse-shoe shaped, providing cover from the winds. Hire a deck chair, relax and buy an ice cream on Lusty Glaze Beach. In the summer, look out for evening events as they sometimes host music acts to perform on the beach!
Remember to stay safe of the beaches in Cornwall as the tides are strong. In the summer, lifeguards are on watch and are there for your safety. Swim between the red and yellow flags and never swim alone.
Activities in Newquay
Newquay Zoo
This is one for a rainy day and great for all of the family! Newquay Zoo is in Trenance Leisure Park in Newquay and features exotic animals from African Lions to the world's largest spider. As well as plenty of animals, experts conduct talks and presentations throughout the day about life in the zoo, you can also get the change of feeding the animals or meeting them.
Blue Reef Aquarium
If you want to continue your day of seeing exotic animals, move on to Newquay's aquarium. Situated on Towan Beach in the centre of Newquay, this aquarium has many local species from the Cornish coast to hundreds of tropical fishes of the ocean.
Trenance Gardens and Boating Lake
For a more relaxing day trip, visit the Trenance Gardens. Only a short walk away from the town if you are renting a cottage there. The gardens are well maintained and are beautiful. There is a lake where you can rent a rowing boat, but this is only open in the summer months. Ice cream vans, mini golf, miniature railways and more, this place offers plenty for the family to enjoy.
Boardmasters Festival
Each year Newquay hosts Boardmasters Festival, a surf and music festival located on the shores. It is a 5-day event that stretches from Newquay to Fistral Beach. Surfing competitons are carried out in the day and dancing starts in the night. It usually happens at the start of August, so if you want to avoid crowds come another time!
